A Britannia do século VII viu a igreja romana consolidar-se no pódio da cristandade após o Sínodo de
Whitby (664), com o apoio do clérigo Wilfrid. A trajetória deste último foi marcada por conflitos com os reis da
Nortúmbria, que controlavam cargos eclesiásticos e sínodos. Este trabalho visa analisar os exílios de Wilfrid,
incluindo perdas de dioceses na Britannia e apelos a Roma. A pesquisa, em andamento, baseia-se em fontes como
a Vita Wilfrithi articuladas com teorias sobre e exílio e estratégia e tática de Michel de Certeau. Resultados
preliminares indicam que os monarcas impunham a sua influência, tornando a autoridade papal mais simbólica do
que efetiva. Sendo várias vezes exilado e destituído de cargos e monastérios, Wilfrid personifica essa dinâmica,
dependendo do aval real para agir, revelando os limites da autoridade dos cristãos de Roma na Britannia.
